EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MINUTES 1/19/10 The regularly scheduled meeting of the Clarkstown Teachers Association was held in the library of South High School on the 19th t day of January. President Montague called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM. All buildings were present with the exception of Link, Lakewood, Laurel Plains and Strawtown. Minutes and treasurer’s report were accepted. STANDING COMMITTEES
CTAA- CRT- Donation in memory or Jamie Urlich. Saturday 3/20 RCC honoring 24 local women. CESA- MEMBERSHIP- NEGOTIATIONS- 1st meeting with district proposals exchanged sometime in March PROFESSIONAL RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES- No active grievances BENEFITS- Vision program is being used and legal services are being underused POLITICAL ACTION- Thanks to all who helped with the AFT delegate election § VOTE-COPE drive § Clarkstown budget loss is 2.7 million with the proposed state budget § Please attend board meetings § School Board vote in May NEW MEMBER COMMITTEE- Survey for new teachers soon; Happy Hour being scheduled for between semesters; info workshop for certification is in the works SPECIAL ED. COMMITTEE-ELEMENTARY- Teachers have been asked to do blue book order but no money was allocated for items we are no longer ask parents for; new appliance policy is in effect in some schools but not all, refrigerators were not provided nor was the proper electricity in the ‘common’ areas that was promised MIDDLE SCHOOL- Questions on whether or not a 6th grader is considered middle school when being home tutored. HIGH SCHOOL- OLD BUSINESS-· Reporting on TRS forms was correct just done before summer money was reported. All forms should be updated now but if you are close to retirement please call TRS to confirm · Donation for $250 for Jamie Urlich tabled until we are able to talk with the family · Assessment policy review- Next Thursday to evaluate suggestions from building- reps please go to building principals to find out who is on the committee and let Paul Diamond know. The assessment issue is one which should be up to the teacher’s discretion and it is important that all representation on this committee is on the same page. NEW BUSINESS- · Proposal to switch time schedule between the high schools and middle schools is in the informational stage · Race to the Top a federal program with federal funding that districts had to apply for had many points that CTA is concerned with therefore Greg did not sign off on it · A “policy committee was formed to review the board’s agendas before the meetings to check any policy changes; Kathy Gnazzo from the High School, Nancy Jolly from Elementary, one more person from middle school is needed. If interested please contact Greg · Elementary Level committee to continue with Parent Visitation issue if interested contact me · Building rep training 1st session will be about 2 hours 2nd session will be longer. All are welcome · Indicator 13th- sp. Ed. Indicators, impact bargaining issues on how it impacts guidance, Spec. Ed. and reg. ed. Please start putting a list together on how this new Indicator will affect and change your job · Facilities dept. has set up a fund to help support those in Haiti- a motion was accepted to send an e-mail to all CTA members to help support this effort · $350.00 donation to the James D. Nelson Scholarship fund was requested and will be tabled for discussion next month · 25/55 legislation is written but not approved yet RCTA-. Anything that has been brought to the Journal News that shows education in Rockland County in a positive light has been blatantly not published. BOE- NYSTRS- 24/12 some retirees owe back $ to TRS. TRS is NOT counting ANY 24/12 $ in retirement ANNOUNCEMENTS-
